THE PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP
Newly offered in 2019, this experience offers each participant valuable training and mentorship from a fast-growing, innovative contemporary dance company whose recent work has been performed throughout California, New York, and abroad in Europe. The workshop includes daily class and the opportunity to learn and perform two challenging and award-winning works alongside other professional dance companies from throughout California. In addition, participants may also receive individual mentorship and coaching with the Artistic Director on marketing themselves as an individual dance artist or broadening their practice and scope within their own dance context. Other opportunities to network and gain invaluable experience are included and will be discussed upon acceptance. The course is open to applications from professional and pre-professional dancers (4+ years dance training) ages 16 and up.
The 5 days in the studio will include:
- Daily company class
- Learning SELAH repertory piece for performance
- Creation of a new work with Guest Artist Shelby Lynn Joyce
Activities during the course outside of rehearsal hours:
- Photo and video shoot including dancer headshots and other photography that will be given to each participant to keep for their own use after the intensive.
- Selah Dance Collective will perform excerpts from their current season repertory.
Dates: August 5-10, 2019
Hours: Monday-Friday, 4-9pm, Saturday 5-9pm
Course Fee: $250
Selection: 20 participants
Location: Movement Studios in Santa Barbara, California.
Complete the online application below including a video submission. The video should include:
1. A 30-60 sec introduction including your name and your previous training/professional experience
2. A 1-2 min session of improvised movement or choreographed work performed in the past year
Videos can be posted to YouTube or Vimeo (as private or unlisted if desired).
Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis based on the strength of each application. Once all 20 spots have been filled a waiting list will be created. Once invited, participants will send a $75 non-refundable deposit to reserve their spot with the remaining amount due on the first day of the course.
Participants are responsible for their own travel, food, and housing arrangements. If you are not able to find housing in Santa Barbara, please let us know via email and we may be able to find discounted housing for you with other workshop participants. Get your applications in early before all of the spots are gone!
